A weekend of fun & flavour for dads & their kids

We are greatly anticipating another weekend of fun, connection, and — in a big way this year — food! We’re delighted to welcome back two friends of Barnabas: pastor, foodie and musician Ricky Stephen, and celebrated Vancouver-based (but world-travelling) chef, David Robertson.

Chef David is planning an exciting and delicious cooking challenge in which he’ll demonstrate a dish, that will then be duplicated by each Father/Child team. Get ready for an exciting and delicious cooking session in which you get to unleash your inner chef!

RICKY STEPHEN

Ricky Stephen is a pastor, nerd, amateur foodie, musician, and pretend fly-fishing enthusiast. A theme of his life and ministry has been to ‘increase positives’, to share the encouragement and hope of Jesus in an encouraging and hopeful way. He currently serves as Pastor of Community Life at Summit Drive Church in sunny Kamloops, British Columbia, where he lives with his wife, baby, and a fluffy doodle named Coco.

Ricky is a long-time Barnabas alum and enthusiast, having done everything from running garbage to Gibsons to leading the dish-pit. He is honored to continue to share in the mission of this incredible ministry.

DAVID ROBERTSON

For over 30 years David Robertson has successfully pursued a career in the culinary industry, building a strong reputation as a passionate, engaging chef and an excellent and inspiring culinary teacher. From his solid background and training in classical French fine dining, David’s passion for new flavours and foods has taken him all over the world (to Europe, the UK, Australia, and just outside of New York City) in his pursuit to expand his culinary repertoire and skills.

Throughout his career, David has come to realize that not only does he love food, but that he also loves teaching people about it. In 2009, together with his wife Sara, David realized his dream of opening a recreational, state-of-the-art cooking school: The Dirty Apron Cooking School & Delicatessen, located inside the beautifully restored heritage building at 540 Beatty Street. As owner and head chef, David's infectious enthusiasm for the products he uses and his patient nature have proven to be the perfect blend of ingredients to offer the most talked about cooking classes, delicatessen and catering in the city.
