September 2026: An update about policy and procedure at Barnabas
Over the past several months, we have prayerfully assessed Barnabas's long-standing policies and procedures and considered what adjustments, if any, would benefit both our people and our guests as they participate in the work and ministry of Barnabas.
Recent discussions at the board and executive level have primarily been driven by two things:
Celebrating 40 years has made us keenly aware of the growth of our ministry. Some of us are old enough to remember when Barnabas looked quite different, from the people to the facilities to the scale of the work.
With growth comes complexity. While our core Vision, Mission & Values will always remain true to what we were founded on, we know our policies need to keep pace with the ever-changing realities of running the ministry day to day.
We have received feedback that has made us conscious of important areas our previous policies did not address clearly enough, and we wanted to act quickly to amend that.
We hope all who participate in the ministry — our guests, staff, donors, community partners and more — are comfortable giving their honest feedback. That spirit of honest sharing helps us to continue growing and reflecting the values of the Kingdom.
Recent policy updates have primarily been focused on four areas:
Governance and approval processes
Intake and management of guest feedback or concerns
Documentation and record keeping
Safeguarding measures (click here to read more about Safeguarding)
Community standards and shared expectations for staff and guests
We are driven by a fundamental belief that our policies should always complement, not detract from, our larger Vision, Mission, and Values. This process undertaken by our leadership team has brought us into greater alignment with one another, and helps pave the way for us to set the table for many more to share in the restorative beauty of Jesus - for years to come.
