Step away, and share in the restorative beauty of Jesus.
Step away and share in the restorative beauty of Jesus.
We invite you to a new gathering, created in collaboration with Fullwell Leadership, as an expression of Barnabas Landing’s vision to see Rooted and Flourishing Families and Leaders.
At the heart of this retreat is a simple conviction: that spiritual formation and character development are the foundation of enduring and effective leadership. As we deepen our spiritual lives, values, and character, we naturally grow in the competencies that drive healthy, visionary leadership. Together, we’ll engage the deeper realities that shape how we lead—including the patterns, influences, and blind spots that often go unexamined, yet have a profound impact on our leadership and the health of our organizations.
This year, we will give focused attention to the inner life of leadership—engaging topics such as the dark side of leadership, self-awareness and differentiation, and the way our family of origin shapes how we lead today. Through these lenses, we’ll explore how deeper integration of faith and leadership transforms not only how we lead, but who we are becoming.
Outside of thoughtful sessions with Dave Blundell, Brian Buhler, Heidi Blundell & Errol Rempel, you’ll have generous time to slow down, seek God’s presence, and connect with others who also carry the unique weight of leadership. Built into the rhythm of the retreat are opportunities for personal reflection, coaching, counselling, and spiritual direction, allowing space for deeper processing and meaningful integration.
We hope you’ll join us.
Note: Our sessions will be equally relevant for leaders in both non-profit and business sectors. While our content will be geared towards executives, we warmly welcome spouses to join the retreat—they will be thoughtfully included throughout the experience

He holds a Bachelor of Theology from Ambrose University, a Masters Leadership from Trinity Western University, and a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership from Tyndale University. In 2003 — after serving first as a pastor, Dave and a group of others founded Hungry For Life International (HFL), where he works as the Executive Director of a growing staff and volunteer team. In addition to teaching at Trinity Western University and Columbia Bible College, he has published two books: Hungry For Life - A Vision of the Church that Would Transform the World and Professionally Religious - The Spiritual Poverty of Spiritual Leaders. Dave is married to Heidi and has two adult children. Dave and Heidi attend Yarrow Alliance Church.
Brian Buhler
At the tender age of thirteen, Brian lost his young mother to a brain tumour. Amid this tragic grief, he experienced God in what he calls his “burning bush experience.” Living with loss made room for Jesus, and Jesus began to direct Brian’s life into Jesus-centered living and preaching. He began preaching at the age of 16, and for the past 45 years has served in four pastoral roles, “retiring” in 2019. He currently serves as a spiritual director for pastors and leaders, a homiletical coach, and a freelance preacher. Brian’s ministry has allowed him speaking opportunities around the world, including being an instructor at the Billy Graham School of Evangelism. He’s currently teaching a two-year academy in spiritual formation and direction to a cohort of leaders in Taiwan.
One of Brian’s passions is assisting leaders in developing intimacy with God. As someone who has always struggled with prayer, Brian is a safe place for leaders who desire more of God but aren’t sure how to get there.
He and his wife Myrna live in Cloverdale, B.C., where they spend lots of time with their three kids and seven grandkids. He enjoys walking through the beauty of the West Coast, sipping funky Ethiopian coffee, watching NBA basketball, and painting bold landscapes in oil and acrylic.
Heidi Blundell
Heidi Blundell is a Certified Leadership Coach, faith-centred counsellor, and seasoned spiritual mentor with more than two decades of experience walking alongside individuals and leaders in nonprofit, ministry, and cross-cultural settings across Canada and internationally. She has completed her Master of Counselling at Briercrest Seminary (2026) and sees counselling as a natural extension of her long-standing calling to support people toward healing, growth, and deeper alignment with God.
Known for her calm, warm, and gently curious presence, Heidi creates safe and welcoming spaces where people can bring their fears, hopes, and questions without fear of judgment. Her approach is collaborative, compassionate, and trauma-informed, integrating evidence-based counselling practices with deep Christian spiritual formation. She has a particular heart for people navigating transition, burnout, family-of-origin dynamics, or spiritual uncertainty, and she brings empathy, humour, and thoughtful insight to conversations that help people reconnect with God, others, and their own story. Heidi and her husband of nearly 30 years enjoy hiking, the beauty of creation, time with their grown children, a good book, and a cup of tea.
Errol Rempel
Errol currently serves as a Sessional Instructor at Columbia Bible College and is part of the Fullwell Leadership Team. His undergrad (B.Th.) and graduate (M.Div.) degrees focused on theology and pastoral ministry preparation. His doctoral work explored several dimensions of effective communication and preaching. Errol served in pastoral and regional leadership roles for many years and developed a ministry focus on team and organizational vitality and cohesion. He sees direct connections between those outcomes and leadership styles that originate in noble character and a living faith in Christ.
At Fullwell, Errol has prioritized serving teams effectively through skillful facilitation. Helping teams retool, reinvent, clarify direction, and resolve bottlenecks triggers joy for Errol. He has a keen interest in effective charity board governance and regularly assists boards in identifying and implementing a model appropriate for their size, complexity, and context. Errol is also a Certified Leadership Coach and has strong convictions concerning the power of provocative questions in a supportive coach-client partnership.
He and Marilyn treasure time with their two adult children and six grandchildren and thrive on international travel.
