FAQ

Who is it for?

The Crew is open to whoever God calls, especially those aged 18-25.

What will it look like?

As a member of The Crew, you will live and work in a Christ-centered community, engaging deeply in both practical service and spiritual growth. Together, we’ll explore what it means to live faithfully in community, asking these foundational questions:

  • Who is God?

  • Who am I?

  • What is my purpose?

Scripture will be our guide as we invite God’s Word to shape our understanding of identity, faith and purpose. We’ll examine what may be holding us back from living fully into God’s calling for each of us, and take time to develop healthy rhythms and practices that consider the whole person.

Are there any trips?

Yes! Alongside a few local out trips, the Crew experience will include a group trip to Guatemala in January 2027! We are partnering with Global Shore on this wonderful opportunity, during which the whole Crew will spend 10 days serving and journeying alongside a school.

In addition to the trip itself, this opportunity will offer each member of The Crew valuable knowledge and practical experience fundraising. We will spend time together in the Fall raising funds for the trip, and will ensure that each Crew member feels well-supported and guided through the process.

What else should I know?

    • Members will serve ~40 hours per week in various roles including hospitality, food prep, dishes, dining room, maintenance, farming, housekeeping and childcare.

    • Alongside work, we’ll walk together through courses that spark meaningful conversations about how God shapes and interacts with every part of our lives. We’ll prioritize listening to and learning from one another’s stories, exploring how each individual’s journey is lived out in community.

    • The Crew will engage in holistic rhythms that engage our physical, mental and spiritual health. It will also include opportunities designed to stretch us — through adventure, retreat, and missional out-trips —and challenge our assumptions about how and where God is at work.

    • Each member will be paired with a mentor from our year-round staff team who will walk with you throughout your time here.

    • The Crew is a volunteer program. Barnabas provides room, board, course materials and out-trip expenses, and will also offer a small monthly stipend to cover personal needs and extracurricular activities.

    • There are two paid "Crew Captain" positions available. The Crew Captains will facilitate activities, schedule shifts and hold the community accountable to its commitments. These work positions are paid in recognition of their leadership responsibilities.

    • If finances pose a barrier to joining The Crew, we encourage you to apply anyway -- just be sure to let us know in your application.

The
Three Pillars

SERVICE

The Crew will gain valuable work experience by serving an average of 40 hours a week in various departments at Barnabas: hospitality, childcare, house keeping, maintenance and farming.

COMMUNITY

The Crew will live together in intentional community with one another, as well as the year-round team at Barnabas Landing. We will commit to going deeper, exploring who we are and who God is. Mentorship and peer groups will offer differing spaces to practice healthy relationship and vulnerability.

PRACTICE

The Crew will be committed to building healthy practices that consistently point us back to Christ in all we do. This will take into account physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. Together, we will be asking the big questions such as "Who am I?", "Who is God?" and "What is my purpose?”. We will lean both into Scripture and into our own stories, using tools that help give us God’s perspective on our unique identities and purposes. Everything we do will be connected to living out God's Word and will for our lives.
